Something for my wife, Mr Vincent Price.
This blog is to serve as a journal of sorts in my pursuit to become a better aritist, writer, and illustrator. To track both my weekly production/progress and activity. Ups and downs, good or bad, I wanna put it all out there...well here.

Martin Luther King Jr
Was inspired to do something a little different for once..
“I believe that unarmed truth and unconditional love will have the final word in reality. That is why right, temporarily defeated, is stronger than evil triumphant.”

Art Week of 1/17/14
Not a very productive week but still pushing forward. This week I worked on a little anatomy and started playing around a little with Manga Studio. I finalized the pencils and inked both the Shazam and Batman Beyond pieces. Now I'm working on digital coloring both a little at a time. The Shazam piece is flatted so hopefully it'll be finished soon. Right now I'm thinking I want to change it up and maybe do a portrait or something. I don't want to pigeonhole myself, I want to play around a little. Here's to digging deeper and a more productive week.

Art Week of 1/10/14
I've decided to start back at the basics. I know how to draw, how to fake my way through at least, and make things look "ok". But my goal isn't to doodle, play, or even be a better "comic book" artist. I want to be a better artist. A reoccurring critique/suggestion I'm seeing on the posts of many less experienced artists (myself included), is to study the fundamentals; "Get the fundamentals down". There are so many things I know I need to work on, it's kind of hard to know where to start or in what order to practice what. So for the time being I've decided to focus on line, 2 and 3 dimensional shapes, and overall form. Namely I wanna gain a better understanding and confidence with basic shape and line.
This week I've started to focus on accuracy and confidence with line; building speed, endurance, and fluidity. I've been primarily doing this as a warm-up before working on larger sketches; this week being the rough sketches for 'Shazam' and a 'Batman Beyond' piece. I've done several sketches of each, making corrections to the best of my abilities, after receiving suggestions in several forums. Hopefully today I'll finish the final pencils/inks of at least one.

Art week of 1/3/14
So far I think I've started the year off fairly well. A long way to go and I know I can push a lot harder but this is a start none the less. This week in anatomy, I've mostly practiced eyes and a bit of heads. Right now I'm mostly working on building a steady practice. Two rough sketches down and posted (Shazaam and Batman Beyond), and one I'm still working on (Naruto w/ the Nine tails). Here's to a productive year.
Keep moving forward.
Keep moving forward.

Reflecting on Last Year
Last year, 2013, was a fairly big year for me. I've pushed myself and gotten just a little better artistically, though not nearly as far as I'd like to have gotten. I've had a few commissions, though most were spec for friends and family; even made a few changes in my life, the best of which was marrying my beautiful wife. With 2014 I only hope to increase that momentum, push myself harder, farther; to become a better artist, writer, husband, and just a better human being.
Here's to moving forward.
